Staramascè is Kash Gabriele Torsello’s photography exhibition and a series of talks and debates looking at everyday life in Afghanistan and at the cultural life of the Afghans, from Badakhshan in the North to Kandahar in the South. The exhibition is part of Temporary Work for Afghans, a project focusing on comprehension, acceptance and respect of difference amongst cultures and persons, with the aim of encouraging Europe and Afghanistan to erase socio-political and cultural barriers. Accordingly, the project has initiated a process of understanding and collaboration with the Afghans, a people that, with their simplicity and their determination, is struggling to rebuild its country, morally and materially - with the support of the West. Staramascè is the Afghan way of greeting, “Welcome”
Kash & Shabana, between Rome and Kabul
The meeting in Rome between Italian and Afghan citizens represents the practical union of Europe and Afghanistan, and the surgical operation of little Shabana practically represents the collaboration between the two cultures. Therefore, Kash & Shabana will expand and concretize this cooperation and union, Insha’ Allah – God Willing.
Afghanistan CameraOscura it’s a photojournalistic book that provides a revealing and fascinating portrait of Afghanistan through a series of travel notes and encounters by an Italian man dressed, but not disguised, as a local. Kash travels deep through Afghanistan, identifying the historical and cultural differences, and the similarities, between Western and Middle Eastern culture – while discovering much about himself too.
Afghanistan CameraOscura contains also a detailed account of Kash’s 23 days of imprisonment - his brief conversations with kidnappers, his thoughts, his emotions and his liberation – while also acts as a revealing portrait of Afghanistan and its people.
